The serving set is a larger version of the table fork and spoon.
As its name suggests, it is part of the “serving pieces,” as opposed to the “table pieces”: the former are used to serve food from the dish to the plate, while the latter, placed around the plate, are used for eating.

The serving set is the first set offered to complete the table cutlery set.
